Conservation of cultural heritage is nowadays a very important aspect of our lives. Thanks to such legacy we gain knowledge about our ancestors, methods of production and ways of their life. The rapid development of 3D technology allows for more and more faithful reflection of this area of life. The rich cultural heritage, both tangible and intangible, can be preserved for future generations due to the use of advanced 3d technologies. They provide the means of documenting, recovering and presenting items of cultural heritage. Not only buildings or monuments are taken into account. An important aspect of our culture is intangible cultural heritage (ICH), including acting, crafting or storytelling, passed down from generation to generation. Due to the rapid development of civilisation and the migration of people, this type of culture is often forgotten. That is why the preservation of ICH is an important element of today world. The main aim of this study, on the basis of the gathered papers, is to identify: (1) the general state of use of 3D digital technologies in ICH; (2) the topics and themes discussed; (3) the technologies used in the study; (4) locations of research centres conducting such studies; and (5) the types of research carried out. The methodology consists of the following main steps: defining study questions, searching query development, selection of publications in Scopus, Web of Knowledge and IEEE Xplore, finally the study execution and the analysis of the obtained results. The results show that for ICH the most often used technologies are: 3D visualisation, 3D modelling, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and motion capture systems.

Cultural heritage is a product of history and culture that contains traces and memories of humanity. Therefore, various kinds of effort are needed to care and spread its value. However, young people's interest in cultural heritage remains shallow due to the strong perception or bias that it cannot be reconciled with modern culture. Intangible cultural properties are thus held and passed down by a relatively small population, which often carries the risk of losing or damaging its original form. Thus, establishing measures to pass down intangible cultural heritage (ICH) is a crucial challenge. In addition to the safeguarding of ICH, there is also a need to increase the younger generation's interest in traditional Korean cultural heritage and encourage them to participate in various activities in order to slowly expose them to the various dimensions of cultural heritage.The purpose of this study is to propose and demonstrate a new media art creation process through the case of the 'Dongnae Crane Dance', one of the most prominent aspects within the local cultural heritage of Busan. This study was conducted in using the following process: 1) The archetype data of the 'Dongnae Crane Dance' was extracted using motion recognition technology to recognize the dancer's body movements.2) The displacement difference (difference in the changing position) of the 3D data was calculated, and the trajectory distance of the motion was derived from the accumulative data calculated above. 3) Based on the data acquired, this study proposes a media art creation process applying various practical contents, focusing on the detailed elements included in digitalized archetype data.Through this process, this study aims to enhance the interest of young people in ICH and contributes to the cultural transmission and safeguarding of its original form. Furthermore, it is expected that the creative activity of modern artworks based on archetype data, not on reinterpretation from the artist's point of view, can provide an opportunity to recognize and convey the value of Korean cultural heritage once again and to have this cultural heritage further disseminate throughout the world.

Preserving the past is an important task of the current generation because of the rapid changes that influence our society. There are certain objects or traditions that make us feel as though we are part of something and—a country, a way of life. The term ‘cultural heritage’ has seen many changes over the last decades and can be evaluated from a tangible or intangible point of view. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the recognition and protection of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) has seen an increased importance. ICH includes goods that can express the idiosyncrasy of certain groups, represent a specific skill, or tradition. This paper presents a working methodology on a structured approach to ICH elements, as well as a case study of such an object. At the same time, this paper proposes a new method of artifacts research, an approach that brings, in addition to engineering, expertise from several fields: Mechanics, construction, material resistance, flow of fluids, heat transfer, ICT, and virtual reality.
