Counterfeit products have become a pervasive problem in the global marketplace, necessitating effective strategies to protect both consumers and brands. This study examines the role of cybersecurity in addressing counterfeiting issues, specifically focusing on a multi-level grayscale watermark-based authentication system. The system comprises a generator responsible for creating a secure 2D code, and an authenticator designed to extract watermark information and verify product authenticity. To authenticate the secure 2D code, we propose various features, including the analysis of the spatial domain, frequency domain, and grayscale watermark distribution. Furthermore, we emphasize the importance of selecting appropriate interpolation methods to enhance counterfeit detection. Our proposed approach demonstrates remarkable performance, achieving precision, recall, and specificities surpassing 84.8%, 83.33%, and 84.5%, respectively, across different datasets.

For digital images, many watermarking schemes regarding copyright issue have been proposed. However, there exist many attacks trying to break or remove the embedded watermark. Therefore, the embedded watermark should be robust against all kinds of attacks. Among various attacks, the print and scan (PS) attack is a challenging one because it not only alters the pixel values but also changes the positions of original pixels. Most of the existing watermarking systems would fail under such an attack. In this paper, a watermarking system operating in the discrete cosine transform domain is proposed for colour images. By efficiently integrating the three components, red, green and blue, the proposed system exhibits superior robustness against various attacks, including the PS attack. According to the simulation results, the system maintains an acceptable image quality while providing outstanding robustness against the PS attack.

Digital watermarking techniques have been used to assert the ownerships of digital images. The ownership information is embedded in an image as a watermark so that the owner of the image can be identified. However, many types of attacks have been used in attempts to break or remove embedded watermarks. Therefore, the watermark should be very robust against various kinds of attacks. Among them, the printand-scan (PS) attack is very challenging because it not only alters the pixel values but also changes the positions of the original pixels. In this paper, we propose a watermarking system operating in the discrete cosine transform (DCT) domain. The polarities of the DCT coefficients are modified for watermark embedding. This is done by considering the properties of DCT coefficients under the PS attack. The proposed system is able to maintain the image quality after watermarking and the embedded watermark is very robust against the PS attack as well.
