Raymond R. Bond,
Maurice D. Mulvenna,
Courtney Potts
et al.

Abstract: This paper makes a case for digital mental health and provides insights into how digital technologies can enhance (but not replace) existing mental health services. We describe digital mental health by presenting a suite of digital technologies (from digital interventions to the application of artificial intelligence). We discuss the benefits of digital mental health, for example, a digital intervention can be an accessible stepping-stone to receiving support. “…Traditional machine learning algorithms, such as logistic regression, decision trees, and ensemble methods, have been extensively used to classify well-being and mental health using data collected from wearables and questionnaires [ 3 , 4 ]. However, many studies often overlook the temporal aspect of the data, not considering how past data impacts future mental health levels.…”

“…Digital supports for mental health refer to the use of technology-based tools, platforms, applications or interventions designed to promote mental well-being, provide support and address mental health concerns. These digital supports leverage various technological resources such as websites, mobile apps, wearable devices, virtual reality, telehealth services and online communities to deliver mental health-related information, resources or therapeutic interventions (Bond et al. , 2023).…”

“…Patients’ use of, and trust, in these interventions has been intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic. The use of self-guided digital health interventions for mental health concerns is growing [ 22 , 23 ] because of access barriers such as high cost, stigma, and lack of access due to a shortage of professionals who can meet this growing demand [ 24 , 25 ].…”
