Digital Interferometric Measurement of Forced Convection Fields in Compact Channels

Abstract: The application of digital interferometric techniques in the measurement of forced convection in compact channels is examined. Michelson Interferometry and Mach-Zehnder Interferometry have been compared and contrasted, in terms of the suitability for temperature measurements. A wedge-fringe setting parallel to the heated surface has been utilized as the basis of the fringe analysis, for effective measurement in small dimension channels. Michelson interferometry was found to provide a larger number of data poin… Show more

“…It is to be mentioned here that a group of researchers, who accordingly employed nonintrusive methods e.g. interferometry for measuring the temperatures in compact channels with water as the coolant medium [29,30], has earlier recognized these limitations of conventional methods of temperature measurements in small dimension channels. However, the coolant fluid employed in these studies has been pure water and to the best of the knowledge of the authors of the present study, application of non-intrusive measurements techniques in the context of nanofluid-based forced convective heat transfer mechanisms through compact channels has not been reported in the literature.…”
