Digital implementation of sliding‐mode control via the implicit method: A tutorial

Abstract: The objective of this article, is to provide a clear presentation of the discretization of continuoustime sliding-mode controllers, also known in the Automatic Control literature as the emulation method, when the implicit (backward) Euler scheme is used. First-order, second-order and homogeneous controllers are considered. The main theoretical results are recalled in each case, and the focus is put on the discrete-time implementation structure and on the algorithms which allow the designer to solve, at each ti… Show more

“…In future work, pool experiments will be conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed controller. Besides, the proposed controller is designed in the continuoustime domain and discretized by the explicit Euler method, which will introduce discretization chattering [50]. A proper discretization scheme is necessary.…”

“…The selection of the SMC controller gains is related directly to the sampling time [34,35]. Different discrete implementations of SMC are proposed in [34][35][36][37][38], where implicit techniques overperformed explicit integration schemes. Both techniques introduced a fixed sampling period.…”
