The bird's oomorphology has far escaped mathematical formulation universally applicable. All bird egg shapes can be laid in four basic geometric figures: sphere, ellipsoid, ovoid, and pyriform (conical/pear-shaped). The first three have a clear mathematical definition, each derived from expression of the previous, but a formula for the pyriform profile has yet to be inferred. To rectify this, we introduced an additional function into the ovoid formula. The subsequent mathematical model fits a completely novel geometric shape that can be characterized as the last stage in the evolution of the sphere-ellipsoid-Hügelschäffer's ovoid transformation applicable to any avian egg shape geometry. Required measurements are the egg length, maximum breadth, and diameter at the terminus from the pointed end. This mathematical description is invariably a significant step in understanding not only the egg shape itself, but how and why it evolved, thus making widespread biological and technological applications theoretically possible.

This research discusses the detection of embryonic eggs using the k-means clustering method based on statistical feature extraction. The processes that occur in detection are image acquisition, image enhancement, feature extraction, and identification/detection. The data used consisted of 200 egg image data, consisting of 100 test data and 100 new test data. The acquisition process uses a smartphone camera by capturing candled egg objects. The results of image acquisition become a reference in the process of image enhancement and feature extraction using Statistical Feature Extraction. The statistical feature extraction applied is the Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) method, which consists of 6 features, namely Energy, Contrast, Entropy, Variance, Correlation, and Homogeneity. The results of feature extraction (6 features) are grouped by the K-means Clustering method. The clustering process uses Euclidean distance calculations to determine the proximity of features. The results of grouping and testing give the best average results with an accuracy of ≈ 74% from several test samples.

We proposed here a non-destructive technology for pre-sorting eggs into subclasses characterized by a specifical acceptable shelf life and quality requirements. Egg characteristics were identified suiting a predictive model for controlling storage periods. Accordingly, the relationships of egg parameters were assessed, with weight loss (ΔW) during storage being the best indicator of changes in egg contents variables. Using changes in ΔW, we established three indicators with the maximum effect on fast egg drying and shrinkage. These included egg weight (W), egg volume-to-surface area ratio, and air cell diameter. The relationship formulae were derived to estimate the ΔW value accurately. This approach enables to judge regarding the potential of each particular egg subclass for its acceptable weight shrinkage and assign an optimal storage period for it. The proposed non-invasive analytical method can be implemented in industrial conditions for both table and hatching eggs with the available set of automated technological equipment.
