In March 2020, the World Health Organisation named the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (Sars-CoV-2), which causes corona virus disease 2019 (COVID –19), as a pandemic. Pregnant women were considered at increased risk of developing severe COVID-19 after viral infection. In response maternity services reduced face-to-face consultations with high-risk pregnant women by supplying blood pressure monitors for supported self-monitoring. This paper explores the experiences of patients and clinicians of the rapid roll-out of supported self-monitoring programme in Scotland during the first and second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted semi-structured telephone interviews with high-risk women and healthcare professionals who were using supported self-monitoring of blood pressure (BP) In four case studies during the COVID-19 pandemic. 20 women, 15 midwives and 4 obstetricians took part in the interviews. Interviews with healthcare professionals showed that while implementation occurred at pace and at scale across the National Health Service (NHS) in Scotland, implementation differed locally, resulting in mixed experiences. Study Participants observed several barriers and facilitators to implementation. Women value the simplicity of use and convenience of the digital communications platforms while health professionals were more interested in their impact on reducing workload for both women and health professionals largely found self-monitoring acceptable, with only a few exceptions. These results show that rapid change can occur in the NHS at a national level when there is a shared motivation. While self-monitoring is acceptable to most women, decisions regarding self-monitoring should be made jointly and on an individual basis.

This policy paper presents workforce development recommendations for research, clinical care and public stakeholders as they plan future research activities to strengthen the workforce to support the healthcare and social needs of persons living with dementia and their families and caregivers. To create these recommendations, the 2020 National Research Summit on Care, Services and Supports for Persons with Dementia and Their Caregivers (2020 Summit) convened a Workforce Development Stakeholder Workgroup. The Stakeholder Workgroup consisted of an interprofessional team of health professionals from academia, professional organizations, and the federal government with expertise in dementia workforce development. The resulting ten workforce development recommendations represent four themes: (1) Accountability by addressing progress towards implementing the 2017 Research Summit on Care, Services, and Supports for Persons with Dementia and their Caregivers (2017 Summit) workforce recommendations; (2) Improving recruitment, retention, and job quality for direct care workers; (3) Creating a tech-savvy and culturally competent workforce; and (4) Developing educational core competencies, domains and milestones. These recommendations will positively impact the ability of persons living with dementia and their caregivers to access person- and family-centred dementia care that promotes independence and quality of life among those navigating their dementia journey.

Kebutuhan informasi kesehatan meningkat saat pandemi COVID-19, di sisi lain terdapat banyak informasi hoaks yang tersebar cepat melalui media digital. Penelitian ini bertujuan menemukan manajemen pencarian informasi dalam konsultasi kesehatan online berbasis telemedis di kalangan pasien positif COVID-19. Melalui telemedicine, pasien dapat melakukan konsultasi kesehatan secara online dengan dokter sebagai garda terdepan pelayanan publik di bidang kesehatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif interpretif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi serta Theory of Motivated Information Management dari Walid Afifi & Judith Weiner dan didukung oleh teori Patient Centerd Communication dari Debra Roter dan Judith Hall. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsultasi kesehatan online dapat dilakukan melalui tulisan, suara, foto, dan video. Pasien melewati empat tahapan melalui interpretasi, ketidaksesuaian dan ketidakpastian, serta evaluasi. Proses konsultasi kesehatan online, pasien dan dokter terlibat dalam komunikasi kesehatan yang mendorong terjadinya komunikasi yang berpusat pada pasien. Kualitas komunikasi interpersonal yang terjadi melalui platform digital dapat mendorong pasien untuk menentukan pengobatan dan keputusan lebih lanjut. Layanan ini berpeluang memberikan akses layanan kesehatan pada masyarakat secara menyeluruh. Sebaiknya pemerintah dapat mengembangkan kebijakan mengenai layanan ini dan meningkatkan literasi digital di dalam masyarakat.
