The digital economy plays an important role in reducing the global warming process. This paper explores the spatiotemporal heterogeneity impacts of the digital economy on provincial carbon emissions and its underlying mechanisms. Initially, this paper examines the inhibitory impact of the digital economy on carbon emissions, alongside the mediating role of economic agglomeration, at a theoretical level. Subsequently, it empirically explores the quantitative associations among the digital economy, economic agglomeration, and carbon emissions by utilizing Chinese provincial panel data spanning from 2000 to 2021. This investigation employed static and dynamic spatial Durbin models as well as mediation models to analyze the interrelationships. The results firstly revealed that the digital economy notably diminishes carbon emissions, with economic agglomeration playing a significant mediating role. This conclusion remained consistent even after substituting the explanatory variables and weight matrix, modifying the sample period, and conducting other robustness tests. Secondly, the impact of the digital economy on carbon emissions exhibited spatial spillovers. Compared with the impact on the local area, the impact on neighboring provinces was found to be weaker. Thirdly, carbon emissions showed a significant “snowball” effect in the time dimension. This paper emphasizes the important role of digital technology in curbing carbon emissions, and it provides some policy insights for studying the digital economy, economic agglomeration, and carbon emissions. Furthermore, it offers valuable insight and suggestions to reduce carbon emissions and realize the goal of the “dual-carbon” strategy.

Analyzing the coupled coordination of the digital economy (DE) and agricultural green development (AGD) and exploring the main influencing factors affecting their coupled coordination are key to achieving high-quality and sustainable development in agriculture. These measures are also crucial for achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this study, we constructed a comprehensive evaluation system including two subsystems, DE and AGD, and firstly measured the development of DE and AGD and their trends in 13 provinces in China’s main grain-producing areas during the decade from 2012 to 2021 using EW-TOPSIS. Secondly, the coupling coordination development (CCD) model was used to analyze the static results and dynamic evolution process of CCD of the DE and AGD subsystems in the study area. Finally, the gray correlation degree (GCD) model was used to identify the main influencing factors in the interaction between the two systems in 2012 and 2021. The results show the following: (1) The development levels of DE and AGD generally rose during the study period, but the development level gap between regions was obvious, and the development of DE relatively lagged behind. (2) The level of CCD increased year by year, and the overall process changed from “uncoordinated” to “coordinated”. (3) At the beginning of the study period, the development achievements of DE had a great impact on the process of AGD. The application of advanced agricultural technology in the AGD system and the process of agricultural industry upgrading had a profound impact on the development of DE. However, a decade later, the main factors had changed. This paper analyzes the results of the above empirical study in time and space, aiming to provide policymakers with new working ideas to achieve the SDGs.

The rapid development of the information and communication technologies (ITCs) and the internet is deeply embedded in all aspects of economic life. With its high economic efficiency and significant green attributes, digitalization provides opportunities for promoting a green economy. However, the effects of digitalization and internet development on China's green economic efficiency are understudied. There is also a gap in research on how digitalization and internet development influence Chinese citizens to choose a green lifestyle from the consumer perspective. This article aims to enrich the research in this field by exploring the effects of internet development on green economic efficiency in China. The article further analyses how digitalization and internet development can encourage citizens to choose a green lifestyle. Drawing on panel data from 257 cities in China spanning the period from 2012 to 2020, this article utilizes the entropy method and the SBM‐GML model to assess the correlation between internet development and green economy efficiency. We also employ the basic regression model, system GMM model, mediation effect model and adjustment model to study the impact of internet development on urban green economic efficiency. The study found that internet development and green economic efficiency face constraints that are inherent in the government's dual economic growth and environmental goals and targets. We also found that digitalization and internet development can promote citizens' adoption of green lifestyles through the fostering of citizen environmental concern and green consumption habits. Further analysis shows that internet development has a more pronounced effect on green economic efficiency in eastern cities, large cities, non‐resource‐based cities and cities with higher economic development. These findings provide useful references for developing countries that promote urban green economic efficiency through digitalization and internet development.
