Objective: This study aimed to investigate the use of fermented domesticated-type Moringa oleifera leaves (FDMOL) + yellow corn (YC) + rice bran (RB) + top mix (TM) with the provision of fish meal (FM) in replacement of partial commercial diet (CD) to broiler performances and carcass yields.Methods: The study used 100 broiler chicks, unsex, MB 90 performed into Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 4 replicates. The trial diets were: MCR= 84.5% CD + 5% FDMOL + 5% YC + 5% RB + 0.5% TM (moringa+), MCF= 84.5% CD + 5% FDMOL + 5% YC + 5% FM + 0.5% TM (moringa++), C1= 100% CD, C2= 84.5% CD + 7.5% YC + 7.5% RB + 0.5% TM, and C3 = 84.5% CD + 5% YC + 5% RB + 5% FM + 0.5% TM.Results: Better adding fish meal into the FDMOL + YC rather than no fish meal in replacement of partial commercial diet to feed on the broilers. Most parameter performances and yields seemed not affected on broilers fed the FDMOL + YC base replacement diet, but the breast tended to reduce, then adding FM into FDMOL + YC relatively recovered this valuable part of cuts-up similar to the control.Conclusion: Adding fish meal into fermented domesticated Moringa oleifera plus yellow corn in the diet did not affect performances but could recover the breast yield of broiler compared to those fed the moringa-based diet without adding fish meal.

Soybean meal (SBM), one of the main protein sources in turkey production is becoming expensive. Shrimp waste meal (SWM), a by‑product of the shrimp industry is a good prospect as a cheaper alternative. It was hypothesised that Nigerian indigenous turkeys (NIT) should be able to digest and utilise SWM better than British United Turkeys (BUT) because of their hardy nature. A 56‑day study was carried out to determine metabolisable energy and apparent nutrient digestibility of growing turkeys fed diets containing SWM. Four diets were formulated such that SBM in the control diet (diet 1) was substituted by SWM at 150, 300 and 450 g/kg (protein for protein) in diets 2, 3, and 4, respectively. Eighty (80) four‑weeks‑old male sex BUT and 80 NIT were allotted on weight equalisation into four dietary treatments replicated four times with five turkeys per replicate in a 2 × 4 factorial arrangement. The total faecal collection method was used for determining apparent and true nutrient digestibility and metabolisable energy values. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomised design and data collected were analysed using ANOVA with SAS package. At the starter phase, NIT recorded (p < 0.05) higher values for dry matter (DM), Ether extract (EE), nitrogen‑free extract (NFE), Apparent metabolisable energy corrected for nitrogen (AMEn) but lower true metabolisable energy corrected for nitrogen (TMEn). Turkeys fed SWM recorded higher (p < 0.05) AMEn. At the grower phase, turkeys fed 300 g/kg SWM recorded higher (p < 0.05) values for CF and ash. Ash and CP digestibility values were higher (p < 0.05) in BUT ditto for TMEn. It was concluded that NIT could handle SWM better than BUT, however, only at the starter phase at 300 g/kg substitution for SBM.

Maggot is the larva of the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) which has the potential as an alternative protein source for poultry. The study aimed to examine the supplementation of hydrolyzed and non-hydrolyzed maggot meals to increase the performance and feed digestibility of Sentul chicken feed. Crude enzymes produced from Tempeh yeast were used as inoculum starters. The research method used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 7 treatments and 3 replications, each replication consisted of five Sentul chickens of four weeks old. The treatments were R0 = basal feed (control), R1 = R0 + 2% non-hydrolyzed maggot, R2 = R0 + 4% non-hydrolyzed maggot, R3 = R0 + 6% non-hydrolyzed maggot, R4 = R0 + 2% hydrolyzed maggot, R5 = R0 + 4% hydrolyzed maggot, R6 = R0 + 6% hydrolyzed maggot. Variables observed were feed intake (FI), total weight (TW), weight gain (WG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), crude protein digestibility (CPD), and crude fiber digestibility (CFD). The data were analyzed utilizing Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's honestly significance difference (HSD) test was also conducted. The results demonstrated that the addition of maggot meal had a significant impact (P<0.01) on the variables TW, WG, FCR, and CPD, and a moderately significant impact (P<0.05) on FI and CFD. When supplemented with 4% and 6% non-hydrolyzed maggot meal, FI and CFD were raised. However, when supplemented with the same percentage of hydrolyzed maggot meal, there was a significant increase in WG and TW while also decreasing the FCR value. Incorporation of 4% hydrolyzed (R5) maggot meal optimized WG, TW and FCR values, and boosted the CPD coefficient from 82.16 ± 1.46 (R0) to 93.14 ± 0.15 and CFD from 60.01 ± 2.40 (R0) to 83.90 ± 0.40 (R6) at the 6% level. In conclusion, the supplementation of hydrolyzed maggot (Hermetia illucens) meal, with crude enzymes from Tempeh yeast, significantly enhanced the performance and feed digestibility of Sentul chicken diets. Supplementation of 4 and 6% gave relatively the same performance, but the best digestibility was found in addition of 6%.
