(1) Background: Exopolysaccharide (EPS) derivatives, produced by Alteromonas infernus bacterium, showed anti-metastatic properties. They may represent a new class of ligands to be combined with theranostic radionuclides, such as 47Sc/44Sc. The goal of this work was to investigate the feasibility of such coupling. (2) Methods: EPSs, as well as heparin used as a drug reference, were characterized in terms of molar mass and dispersity using Asymmetrical Flow Field-Flow Fractionation coupled to Multi-Angle Light Scattering (AF4-MALS). The intrinsic viscosity of EPSs at different ionic strengths were measured in order to establish the conformation. To determine the stability constants of Sc with EPS and heparin, a Free-ion selective radiotracer extraction (FISRE) method has been used. (3) Results: AF4-MALS showed that radical depolymerization produces monodisperse EPSs, suitable for therapeutic use. EPS conformation exhibited a lower hydrodynamic volume for the highest ionic strengths. The resulting random-coiled conformation could affect the complexation with metal for high concentration. The LogK of Sc-EPS complexes have been determined and showing that they are comparable to the Sc-Hep. (4) Conclusions: EPSs are very promising to be coupled with the theranostic pair of scandium for Nuclear Medicine.

Di-tert-butyl (E)-4,4'-stilbenedicarboxylate and tert-butyl 4-vinylbenzoate were copolymerized with maleic anhydride and tert-butyl 4-maleimidobenzoate, individually and respectively. After conversion into polyanions, these four copolymers exhibited activity against four HIV-1 strains: IIIb, BaL, JR-CSF, and 92UG037. For both the IIIb and BaL HIV-1 strains, the lowest IC50 (0.095 and 0.23 μg/mL, respectively) values were obtained with poly(4,4'-stilbenedicarboxylate-alt-maleic acid) (DCSti-alt-MA). For JR-CSF and 92UG037, both tier 2 clinical isolates but different clades, DCSti-alt-MA exhibited the lowest IC50 (0.76 and 0.75 μg/mL, respectively). Although DCSti-alt-MA had the lowest IC50 in μg/mL for each strain, the other copolymers had IC50s less than 2-fold higher. Further, these copolymers achieved high selectivity indices (>100) for these clinical isolates. Polymer rigidity, as measured by the statistical segment length, emerged as a key property when comparing anti-HIV activities with those of other polyanions. A speculative illustration was proposed for possible modes of inhibition.

The peculiarities of viscosity data treatment for two series of polymer systems exhibiting associative properties: brush-like amphiphilic copolymers—charged alkylated N-methyl-N-vinylacetamide and N-methyl-N-vinylamine copolymer (MVAA-co-МVACnH2n+1) and charged chains of sodium polystyrene-4-sulfonate (PSSNa) in large-scale molecular masses (MM) and in extreme-scale of the ionic strength of solutions were considered in this study. The interest in amphiphilic macromolecular systems is explained by the fact that they are considered as micellar-forming structures in aqueous solutions, and these structures are able to carry hydrophobic biologically active compounds. In the case of appearing the hydrophobic interactions, attention was paid to discussing convenient ways to extract the correct value of intrinsic viscosity from the combined analysis of Kraemer and Huggins plots, which were considered as twin plots. Systems and situations were demonstrated where intrachain hydrophobic interactions occurred. The obtained data were discussed in terms of vs. plots as well as in terms of normalized scaling relationships where was the relative viscosity of the polymer solution. The first plot allowed for the detection and calibration of hydrophobic interactions in polymer chains, while the second plot allowed for the monitoring of the change in the size of charged chains depending on the ionic strength of solutions.
