Diffusion of semi‐flexible polyelectrolyte through nanochannels

Abstract: in Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com).The diffusion of sodium polystyrene sulfonate through polycarbonate nanochanels was studied in salt-free dilute aqueous solution. A stronger molecular weight dependence of diffusion was observed compared to free diffusion in dilute solution. t . For charged polyelectrolytes, the transition to 1-D diffusion therefore begins before the polymer radius of gyration exceeds the channel size contrary to model assumptions. We attribute this to the charged nature of th… Show more

“…In recent years, advancements in nanotechnology have led to the development of new methods for fabricating nanochannels according to advanced requirements. Like biological nanochannels in living systems, the obtained nanochannels always have some properties such as ion current rectification, cation selectivity and gating, which can be used in many fields including sensing, [108][109][110][111][112] filtrating, 58,[113][114][115][116] and energy conversion. [117][118][119][120][121] Among various potential applications of interest in nanochannels, herein, we only introduce the BSNC based on an ion track etching membrane for energy conversion.…”

“…2 In most confinement scenarios of practical significance, i.e. thin polymer films, 3 polymers in porous media, [4][5][6][7] polymer emulsions, 8 polymer composite systems, 9 agglomerates of polymers with filler particles, etc., both adsorption and finiteness of the polymer phases may play a role at the same time for chain dynamics. For theoretical treatments and model descriptions of confined-chain dynamics, it is therefore most important to analyze the origins of the confinement effects.…”
