“…Efficient output couplers must have the following properties : optimum IR reflection coefficient to operate with a collimated pump beam, low FIR absorption losses and low adjustable coupling coefficient (5-10 %). Hybrid couplers meeting this requirements have been realized at wavelengths larger than 100 pm [ 19,20,21 ] . At wavelengths smaller than 100 ktm technological problems arise from the FIR absorption of the IR reflecting coating and the increasing difficulty to match the etalon conditions of the hybrid coupler substrate, thus we have used the conventional output hole mirror in the present experiments.…”

Il assure un fonctionnement stable dans le domaine des courtes longueurs d'onde submillimétriques avec un niveau de puissance de 10 à 100 mW. Des résultats significatifs présentés à 70 03BCm et 118 03BCm soulignent les lignes directrices essentielles au choix des paramètres du laser.Abstract. 2014 The design and performances of an efficient CW waveguide optically pumped CH3OH laser are described for stable operation 10-100 mW level in the short submillimeter wavelength region. Significant results at 70 03BCm and 118 03BCm underline the more stringent guide-lines in the selection of the laser parameters.

Surface Lattice Resonance with an Ultra-High Unloaded Q-Factor in Capacitive Metal Meshes at Terahertz Frequencies

We investigated the surface lattice resonance (SLR) occurring in capacitive metal meshes (CMMs) in the terahertz (THz) range. CMMs, which comprise two-dimensional periodic arrays of square metal patches on thin quartz substrates, are one of the simplest metasurfaces. Experiments and theoretical simulations performed at frequencies around 0.1 THz show that the SLR in such CMMs has an extraordinarily high unloaded Q-factor of greater than 1000, when the ratio of the length of the metal patch to the mesh period of the CMM and the thickness of the quartz substrate are optimized. An intense and sharp dip in transmission in excess of -60 dB at the SLR frequency was produced with this high unloaded Q-factor in the CMM. Using the CMM as a refractive index sensor, a figure of merit of greater than 340 for frequency interrogation and a refractive index resolution of better than 1.9×10− 6 refractive index units for phase interrogation were experimentally demonstrated. These results indicate that CMMs are superior sensors with high performance in the THz-wave region.
