Differentiated regulation of immune-response related genes between LUAD and LUSC subtypes of lung cancers

Abstract: Lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) and lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) are the two major subtypes of lung cancer, with LUSC exhibits faster progression rate than LUAD. To investigate the roles of immune-response related genes (IRGs) in lung cancer progression, we used LUAD and LUSC samples at different cancer progression stages, and identified that the expression profiles of IRGs could serve as a better classification marker for cancerous tissues of both LUAD and LUSC. We found that the expression changes of IRGs … Show more

“…LUSC, accounting for 30% of all lung cancer types, is a horrible threat to individual life. 27,28 Modern advanced methods like surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy have been applied to treat LUSC. 28,29 Nevertheless, LUSC patients still present a dismal prognosis with a low overall 5-year survival rate due to tumor metastasis and recurrence.…”

“…Moreover, it has been found that mutations in cell cycle genes can affect the differentiation of squamous cells in the course of modern anticancer treatment research . Pathways in cancer, which describes important signaling pathways such as Wnt signaling and T‐cell receptor signaling, is also an important factor in the progression of NSCLC and development of squamous cell carcinoma of the lung …”

“…1 Despite advances in the diagnosis and treatment of LUAD, its prognosis remains poor. 2 Therapies targeted at suppressing driver genes, including epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR, HGNC ID: 8236) and anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK, HGNC ID: 427), have been shown to extend the survival time and improve the quality of life of LUAD patients. However, the emergence of resistance limits the clinical utility of such drugs.…”
