Abstract:Glucosylceramide (GlcCer) synthesis by the enzyme glucosylceramide synthase (GCS) occurs on the cytosolic leaflet of the Golgi and is the first important step for the synthesis of complex glycosphingolipids (GSLs) that takes place inside the lumen. Apart from serving as a precursor for glycosylation, newly synthesized GlcCer is also transported to the plasma membrane and secreted onto HDL in the circulation. The mechanism by which GlcCer is transported to HDL remains unclear. Recently, we showed that ATP-bindi… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
