Differential Learning as a Key Training Approach to Improve Creative and Tactical Behavior in Soccer

Abstract: The differential-learning program stressed creative and positional behavior in both age groups with a distinct magnitude of effects, with the U13 players demonstrating higher improvements over the U15 players. Overall, these findings confirmed that the technical variability promoted by differential learning nurtures regularity of positioning behavior.

“…The SGG were recorded using a digital video camera, Sony NV-GS230, that was fixed at a 2-m height and aligned in the midfield part of the pitch. Then, the video files were downloaded to a computer and a notational analysis was performed using the LongoMatch software (Longomatch, version 1.3.7., Fluendo) (Santos et al, 2018). The following individual performance variables were collected: successful passes, successful dribbles, shots on target and goals (Liu, Gómez, Gonçalves, & Sampaio, 2015).…”

“…In football, small-sided games (SSG) have been considered as an optimal training solution to concurrently develop the players' tactical, technical and physical performances (Dellal et al, 2011;Folgado, Gonçalves, & Sampaio, 2017;Memmert et al, 2015;Santos et al, 2018). These situations are usually played in pitches with smaller areas, involving a lower number of players and often played with adapted rules in regard to the official 11-a-side match (Dellal et al, 2011).…”

“…Meanwhile ample evidence for a constructive influence of increased motor noise is provided from various areas of research (birds [26], eye-hand coordination tasks [27][28][29] artificial laboratory tasks [30]). Beside applications in different fields of sports techniques (shot put [31], hurdles [32], high jump [33], tennis [34]; football [35], basketball [36]) and sport tactics [37,38] the DL theory was successfully applied in non-sports related areas such as music learning [39], handwriting skill acquisition [40], focal dystonia [41]; stroke rehabilitation [42] and even to office environments [43].…”

“…At the same time, it is necessary to use a differentiated approach in classes with children of primary school age. An individual and differentiated approach allows to reveal the potential of physical and mental capabilities of the schoolchildren to reveal the reserves of his body and to show its advantages in comparison with other schoolchildren 8,9 . The criteria for a differentiated approach can be the height and weight of the schoolchildren, his physical or technical ability and many other criteria 10,11,21 .…”

“…In work with children, especially primary school age children, a differentiated approach is often used. This approach helps to reveal the internal and external potential of children, the hidden reserves of the body 8,9 . The differentiated approach is used not only in sports work, but also at school; thus, children can be differentiated on performance of physical exercises into different groups taking into account age, sex, level of technical or physical preparation, growth, weight and many other indicators 10,11 .…”
