Differential expression of miR-139, miR-486 and miR-21 in breast cancer patients sub-classified according to lymph node status

Abstract: Down-regulation of miR-486-5p and miR-139-5p, in conjunction with up-regulation of miR-21, may represent a useful signature for the identification of high-risk breast cancer patients.

“…These precursors are cleaved in the nucleus by the Bmicroprocessor complexŵ hich contains an RNase III endonuclease called Drosha and Di George critical region 8 (DGCR8). The resulting intermediate is approximately 70 nucleotides long and forms a hairpin-containing secondary structure called Bprecursor miRNA^(pre-miRNA) [8,13]. Next, this pre-miRNA is transported to the cytoplasm where it is further processed by another RNase III endonuclease, Dicer, to release the mature and fully functional double stranded BmiRNA^ [8,14], which can be incorporated into the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) [15].…”
