Differential expression of haptoglobin isoforms in chronic active hepatitis, cirrhosis and HCC related to HBV infection

Abstract: Abstract. The three main complications of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection are chronic active hepatitis (CAH), liver cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The aim of this study was to identify differentially expressed serum proteins among the three liver complications in patients with HBV infection. Differentially expressed proteins have been shown to be potential biomarkers for disease diagnosis, prognosis and therapy guidance. Two-dimensional polyacrylamid gel electrophoresis (2DE) combined with li… Show more

“…Simultaneously, it may be considered a variation in the oncogenic behavior of HCV in HCC patients compared to cirrhotic patients with HCV. We have previously investigated differentially expressed serum proteins among CAH, cirrhosis, and HCC stages of HBV infection and healthy individuals by 2-DE coupled to mass spectrometry (14). Here we compared the serum proteomes of these stages of HCV infection versus HBV infection.…”

“…Only two spots of the HP-α2 chain were differentially expressed between HBV-HCC and HCV-HCC patients. We have previously observed the differential expression of some HP isoforms between HBV-HCC and HBV-cirrhosis (14). In keeping with our data, specific HP profiles have been reported in breast, ovarian, head and neck cancers (32).…”

“…Recent advances in mass spectrometry (MS)-based protein analysis [8] have allowed the discovery and validation of potential biomarkers from clinical samples in a high-throughput manner [9][10][11]. MS involves the ionization of samples, separation of the proteins, and determination of their relative molecular weights.…”
