Differential Expression of Gluconeogenesis-Related Transcripts in a Freshwater Zooplankton Model Organism Suggests a Role of the Cori Cycle in Hypoxia Tolerance
Abstract:Hypoxia is one of the critical abiotic factors in aquatic ecosystems, resulting in significant mortality of invertebrates and fish and billions of dollars in losses to fisheries and aquaculture. Animals possess a limited ability to maintain life functions, including muscular CNS activity, in hypoxia by generating ATP by glycolysis, but this requires constant regeneration of glucose fuel. In the last few years, data started to accumulate showing that gluconeogenesis plays a central role in this process in crust… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
