Differential expression of CCL18 in moderate/severe and mild persistent allergic rhinitis and its correlation with disease parameters

Abstract: The results of the study indicate that there could be a relationship between the expression of CCL-18 in nasal turbinate mucosa and the severity of allergic rhinitis.

“…CC chemokine ligand 18 (CCL18) is a CC chemokine constitutively highly expressed in human lung and plasma and upregulated during inflammatory and cancer processes in many organs [ 23 ]. It was found to be elevated in bronchoalveolar lavage and serum from allergic asthmatic patients [ 24 ] and in many allergic conditions, such as atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis [ 25 , 26 , 27 ]. CCL18 exhibits chemotactic activity toward human naive T cells [ 28 ], skin-homing memory T cells [ 25 ], B lymphocytes [ 29 ], immature DC [ 30 ], Th2 cells [ 24 ], basophils [ 24 ], regulatory T cells [ 31 ], and NK cells [ 32 ].…”

“…As an IgE-mediated immunologic disease, allergic rhinitis (AR) is associated with nasal symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, and congestion against inhaled allergens, and its histological features include mucosal inflammation driven by type 2 helper T (Th2) cells. [1][2][3][4][5] AR is the most frequent chronic diseases observed in children. 5,6 In addition to high medical cost, it is coupled with life quality reduction, lower work production, and low academic performance at school.…”
