Differential effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on three salt‐tolerant grasses under cadmium and salt stress

Abstract: Salt‐tolerant plants generally grow in salty conditions, and some of them are also tolerant to heavy metal stress. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can help plants withstand abiotic stresses. However, few studies have focused on the effects of AMF on the growth of salt‐tolerant plants in cadmium (Cd)‐contaminated saline soils. In this study, a greenhouse pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of AMF (Funneliformis mosseae) on growth, ion uptake, and Na+ and Cd translocation in three salt‐tol… Show more

“…Meanwhile, analysis methods included multiple innovation model combinations as well as meta‐analysis. SD: system dynamics, GIS: geographic information systems, RF Model: random forest model, DNDC Model: denitrification‐decomposition (DNDC) model (Bhardwaj et al, 2022; Chen et al, 2022; Feng et al, 2023, Hashimi et al, 2022; He et al, 2022; Jia et al, 2023; Liu et al, 2022; Ravisankar et al, 2022; Wang et al, 2022, 2023; Xu et al, 2022; Yang et al, 2022, Zhang et al, 2022, 2023). “…Reed straw ( Phragmites australis ) application effectively improved degraded salt marshes and enriched carbon sinks (Chen et al, 2022). Moreover, salt‐tolerant grasses, in partnership with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, can potentially rehabilitate heavy metal‐contaminated saline ecosystems (Jia et al, 2023); this finding suggests that ecological engineering is developing sustainably.…”

“…Heavy metal stress, which occurs as a result of anthropogenic activities such as mining, organic and inorganic fertilizers, sewage, and contaminated water, can negatively affect plant metabolic activities and therefore inhibit plant development, and cause soil salinity in arid and semiarid regions (Jia et al., 2023; Rady et al., 2019). Crop production in saline soils increases the mobility of heavy metals in the soil (Acosta et al., 2011).…”
