Differential Cross Section and Polarization Effects in pp -> pN* and SU(6)  O(3) Structure

Abstract

1801On the basis of the symmetric quark model, the differential cross section and the polarization effect in pp-7pN* is calculated. These quantities are related to the NN elastic scattering amplitude by assuming that N and N* have SU(6) Q$)0(3) structure. Our results show that it seems possible to explain the reaction NN-7NN* by their SU(6)Q$)0(3) structure. However, our knowledge on the helicity and isospin dependence of the input NN elastic scattering amplitude is not enough to derive more detailed conclusions.(NQ) amplitude in § 2 and the explicit form of the overlapping integral will be obtained in § 3. In § 4 the NQ amplitude will be expressed in terms of the NN elastic scattering amplitude. In § 5 the N* production amplitude, the differential cross section and the polarization of N*, etc., will be expressed in terms of the NN elastic scattering amplitude. In § 6 we will present the phenomenological NN elastic scattering amplitudes which are used as input and the numerical results will be presented in § 7. Section 8 will be devoted to the summary and discussion.
