Different expression patterns of pAkt, NF‐κB and cyclin D1 proteins during the invasion process of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: an in vitro approach

Abstract: This study suggests the participation of pAkt, NF-κB and cyclin D1 in the invasion process of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. Moreover, cytoplasmic pAkt network-like structure was probably related to cytoskeleton changes presented during invasion.

“…Images were quantified as the following: four photographs (same magnitude and resolution) of either the laser or control group were randomly selected and set in RGB mode to produce a color histogram that was based on the pixels` brightness in an arbitrary proportional scale between the experimental groups [27]. …”

“…IR exists as two isoforms, IR-A and IR-B derived from alternative pre-mRNA splicing. These isoforms differ by the inclusion or exclusion of exon 11, which alters the ligand binding affinity and downstream signaling properties of the IR [7174]. Inclusion of exon 11 yields IR-B, which is highly expressed in known insulin-target organs, such as liver, muscle, and adipose tissue and has a high affinity for insulin [7173**].…”

“…The Akt/NF-κB signaling pathway plays a crucial role in regulating the invasive phenotype of oral cancer 23 . In light of the reported activity of FTY720 on inhibiting PI3K-mediated Akt phosphorylation in human hepatocellular carcinoma 13 , we assessed the effect of FTY720 on markers associated with this signaling axis.…”
