Different expression patterns ofLGALS1andLGALS3in polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia and primary myelofibrosis

Abstract: Despite all the knowledge, the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) pathophysiology remain unclear. Authors have shown galectin-1 (Gal-1) and 3 playing roles in tumour angiogenesis and fibrosis, which were correlated with poor prognosis in patients with MPN. In the present study LGALS1 and LGALS3 were differently expressed between polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia (ET) and primary myelofibrosis (PMF) diseases. Increased LGALS3 expression was associated with… Show more

“…Some of these molecules (for example, IL-8, CCL2, PLAUR, SPP1 and LGALS3) showed higher plasma levels in PMF patients compared to HDs. Although CCL2, 26 IL-8 24 and PLAUR 27 have been already reported to be increased in PMF patients in comparison with HDs, no data were available for SPP1 and LGALS3, 28 , 29 respectively. However, both these molecules have been associated with other inflammatory disorders.…”

“…In multiple myeloma, galectin-1 displayed dual functions depending on CD45RA expression of malignant cells: it promoted viability and proliferation of CD45RA − cells through aggregation of β1-integrin, and induced growth arrest of CD45RA + cells through inhibition of ERK phosphorylation ( 117 ). Aberrant expression of galectin-1 and/or−3 in patients with MPNs is also discovered to correlate with JAK2 mutation in these diseases and state of cell differentiation ( 118 ).…”
