Abstract: Mortality imposed on a population can interact with negatively density-dependent mortality to produce overcompensation, wherein added mortality results in more survivors. Experimental mortality can cause overcompensation in mosquito larvae, which would be counterproductive if it resulted from mosquito control in nature.
