Different Classes of Phytohormones Act Synergistically to Enhance the Growth, Lipid and DHA Biosynthetic Capacity of Aurantiochytrium sp. SW1

Abstract: In the present study, the impact of eight phytohormones from six different classes on the growth, lipid and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) biosynthetic capacity of Aurantiochytrium sp. SW1 (SW1) was evaluated. Kinetin (KIN), jasmonic acid (JA) and gibberellic acid (GA) significantly enhanced the growth and DHA production of SW1 by 16%–28% and 66%–84% in comparison to the control, respectively. The synergistic effect of these three phytohormones, evaluated by the response surface methodology (RSM), showed that a co… Show more

“…Oleaginous fungi are recognized worldwide as potential sources of PUFA with significant commercial value, such as omega 3 and omega 6 PUFAs [ 6 , 7 ]. The dietary importance of these PUFAs in maintaining human health has been suggested decades ago [ 8 ]. M. circinelloides is a well-known filamentous fungus, considered to be the microbial factory for the production of useful natural compounds and metabolites [ 9 ].…”

“…M. circinelloides is a well-known filamentous fungus, considered to be the microbial factory for the production of useful natural compounds and metabolites [ 9 ]. They have the capability of producing a high amount of PUFAs rich in GLA (γ-linolenic acid, 18:3, delta-6,9,12) [ 8 , 10 ]. GLA is an important omega 6 fatty acid that has a crucial role in upholding human well-being and preventing various health-related issues [ 11 , 12 ].…”

“…In the present study, the synergistic effect of the C/N ratio, cerulenin, and ketoconazole was checked and optimized for superior β -carotene production by CBS 277.49, using RSM-CCD. RSM is a powerful statistical tool that has been used successfully in many biological and chemical processes for optimization [ 46 ]. It creates an experimental design with a minimal number of experiments.…”

“…Being a very attractive and promising material for the sustainable production of DHA, thraustochytrids are studied extensively in order to improve market prospects. Many different strategies are utilized to enhance and engineer the lipid production of these organisms [ 14 , 15 ]. Of such, impacts of the composition of growth media are vastly studied and literature is profuse about it [ 16 ].…”
