“…In this regard, it can be stated that the comparison of values of leukogram found by the traditional manual enumeration based on morphological characteristics using a microscope with their values, which were determined by the automatic determination using an analyzer, can be sometimes greatly misleading. Such a comparison can affect negatively Boever et al 2010;Seliger et al 2012;Bílková et al 2017). Besides, our results of the differential leukocyte counts in Cherry Valley hybrid ducks showed that LYM are the most abundant type of leukocytes, which is in accordance with the previous findings of Li et al (2012) and Eze et al (2014).…”

“…There is published evidence that the heterophil:lymphocyte ratio varies between birds and is highly heritable (Campo and Davila, 2002). It also varies greatly amongst chicken breeds (Bilkova et al, 2017) and avian species (Minias, 2019). We did not observe any corresponding changes in circulating myeloid cells in these birds ( Figure 3 ) so this phenomenon appears specific to the spleen.…”

“…Precisely 1.0 ml of EDTA blood was mixed with 0.20 ml cellular fixant (Transfix®, MBL International), stored and shipped on wet ice to Cayman Analytical Laboratories (Ann Arbor, MI) for Heterophile to Lymphocyte ratio analysis using Flow Cytometry as described by Lentfer et al. (2015) and Bílková et al. (2017) ( Bílková et al., 2017 ; Lentfer et al., 2015 ).…”
