Different allele frequencies of MC4R gene variants in Chinese pig Breeds

Abstract: A missense variant of the porcine melanorcortin-4 receptor gene (MC4R) is associated with fatness and growthrelated traits in pigs. The single nucleotide change of MC4R gene can be identified by TaqI PCR-RFLP. We checked the variation in nine Chinese native pig breeds, four pig breeds from France, together with a F2 population originating from a cross between Landrace and Lantang. We also analyzed the relationship of MC4R genotypes with effects on variation in growth and carcass-related traits in the F2 popula… Show more

“…Study about melanocortin gen also have done before in Magelang ducks and Ettawa goats (Rahayu, et al, 2015;Maharani et al, 2016). The melanocortinergic system has been detected in association with body weight in the agouti mouse (Chen et al, 2004). MC4R gene could activate leptin signaling for food intake and body weight in Mice (Marsh et al, 1999).…”

“…It has been established that an essential factor in increasing the production of high-quality pork is the intensification of the breeding process in the field of pig breeding (Chen et al, 2004;Tsereniuk et al, 2010;Biriukova & Makovska, 2011;Khramkova, 2019;Dudka, 2020;Xu et al, 2021;Li et al, 2021). It provides for the introduction of innovative methods of evaluation and selection of highly productive animals, the use of animals of foreign breeding, as well as the study of the level of their operational value in the conditions of industrial technology of keeping (Kim et al, 2000;Fontanesi et al, 2010;Rodríguez et al, 2013;Herrero-Medrano et al, 2015;Tsybenko et al, 2021;Vashchenko & Berezovskyi, 2021;Khalak et al, , 2022Khalak et al, , 2023.…”

“…Intensification of the breeding process, as well as the introduction of modern technologies for keeping and feeding pigs of different sex and age groups, determine the work program of agricultural formations, the goal of which is to create highly profitable pork production (Voloshchuk & Vasyliv, 2013;Bankovska, 2016;Barkar & Dekhtiar, 2017;Voloshchuk & Hryshyna, 2017;Martyshuk et al, 2021). At the same time, the essential issues are the objective assessment of the level of animal productivity and the search for effective methods of early prediction of the reproductive qualities of sows and breeding boars, as well as the fattening and meat qualities of their offspring Chen et al, 2004;Fontanesi et al, 2010;Zorc et al, 2022).…”
