Differences in development and the prevalence of obesity among children and adolescents in different socioeconomic status districts in Shandong, China

Abstract: There have been obvious regional variations in development and the prevalence of obesity in children and adolescents in Shandong, China, These variations in development and prevalence of obesity in children and adolescents among different SES districts being related to the local SES, process of urbanization, living environments, nutritional status, dietary pattern, physical activity and public health.

“…It is interesting to integrate previous consistent findings on the individual level and our new findings on the area level, through which it could be predicted that high-income men living in high SES areas in China are at a higher risk of overweight and As we know, area-level SES can influence the overweight and obesity prevalence among people within different age groups (Ergin et al, 2012;Singh et al, 2008). In one recent study on a non-adult population conducted in Shandong province of China, it was found that there was obvious regional variations in obesity prevalence and both sexes in the high SES group were more likely to be obese than those in moderate and low SES groups (Zhang and Wang, 2012). These findings in Chinese non-adults are consistent with our findings in Chinese adults to some extent.…”
