Differences in Antioxidants, Polyphenols, Protein Digestibility and Nutritional Profile between Ganoderma lingzhi from Industrial Crops in Asia and Ganoderma lucidum from Cultivation and Iberian Origin

Abstract: Carpophores of Ganoderma lingzhi (GZ) from industrial crops in China were analysed and compared with carpophores of three Iberian strains of cultivated Ganoderma lucidum (GL) (Aveiro, Madrid, Palencia) previously genetically characterized. The genetic determination of all the fungi in the study coincided with the identification provided by the companies and entities that supplied the samples. Cultivation time ranged between 107 and 141 days. The analysis of total phenol content showed to be 56.8% higher for GL… Show more

“…Protein profile and digestibility of G. lingzhi (GZ) and G. lucidum (GL)-Madrid mushroom proteins in simulated gastric fluid differ significantly. GL and GZ contain some proteins that are totally or partially resistant to simulated gastric fluid [ 37 ]. Partially hydrolyzed protein components in the mushroom are fermentable by gut microbes to release branch-chain fatty acids to enhance host health [ 11 ].…”

“…In recent years, more and more studies on the antitumor properties of G. lucidum extracts were carried out to evaluate its potential as a therapeutic agent (Cör et al, 2018; Liang et al, 2019). Several published papers reported that ar‐tumerone, fatty acids, and triterpenoids were reported to have the ability to inhibit the processes of cell proliferation and control the cell death cycle (Fraile‐Fabero et al, 2021; Mecca et al, 2021). Triterpenoids kill cancer cells mainly by inducing apoptosis through the activation of caspases.…”

“…G. lucidum is not only harnessed as a medicinal remedy but also for its broad applications across various industries, such as nutraceuticals, health supplements, and cosmetics [11]. Proximates, minerals, and a diverse array of bioactive compounds in G. lucidum have undergone extensive scrutiny and are comprehensively understood [12,13]. In recent years, Ganoderma leucocontextum, a newly discovered species from Tibet plateau and Sichuan Province in China, has garnered attention [14].…”
