AimTo know the attitudes towards sexuality of nursing students and those sociodemographic and cultural factors that can influence it.DesignAn observational study was carried out on Nursing degree students. One hundred and eighteen nursing degree students who were going to take the sexual and reproductive health nursing course.MethodsA self‐administered online questionnaire. This questionnaire had several parts specifically designed to collect sociodemographic variables. In order to determine the attitudes towards sexuality, the questionnaire based on the ATSS (Attitudes Towards Sexuality Scale). The Double Standard Scale (DSS) was also used. This scale evaluates double standards within the area of sexuality. The Rape Supportive Attitude Scale (RSAS), was included to determine beliefs about rape, rapists and their victims.ResultsThe ATSS shows a statistically significant association with religious beliefs (p = 0.005), with mean scores of 113.84 (SD = 9.81) for non‐believers (no religion), 108.36 (SD = 15.68) for non‐practicing believers and 102.32 (SD = 17.87) for believers (those who practice their faith). The mean score in the DSS shows a statistically significant association with alcohol consumption (p = 0.001). The mean score on the RSAS is statistically significantly associated with the place of residence (p = 0.050), the means were 44.32 (SD = 9.26) for those who lived in the city, 34.94 (SD = 19.21) if the place of residence was between 10,000 and 5000 inhabitants and 32.54 (SD = 15.01) if the family home was in a town with less than 5000 inhabitants.ConclusionReligious beliefs reduce liberalism and positive attitudes towards sexuality, whereas sporadic alcohol consumption increases them.Patient or Public ContributionNo patient or public contribution.

Child maltreatment is any action, neglect or aggression towards a child caused by parents, family members or others. The objective of this study is to find out the beliefs and attitudes regarding abuse among nursing students. Methods: This was an exploratory study with the aim of validating the questionnaire, made up of four dimensions. This questionnaire was administered during the 2020/2021 academic year to 370 undergraduate nursing students (first and third year), in Toledo, Talavera de la Reina and Albacete of the University of Castilla-La Mancha, in addition to resident nurses, master’s students and doctoral students during the first four-month period (September, October, November and December). A statistical analysis was carried out observing internal consistency for Cronbach’s alpha. Results: In total, 61.6% of the students concluded that the child was not responsible for maltreatment, and 41.6% thought that it was independent of gender. Furthermore, 65.7% stated that it is human nature for parents to care for their children, 74.1% considered maltreatment to be a crime in the family, and 15.4% said that it does not exist in higher social classes. A total of 23.2% said that those in nursing professions should not intervene in child abuse. With regard to Münchausen syndrome, there was less agreement among the participants, being unknown to the great majority of the students. Conclusions: Among the participants, a lack of knowledge about child abuse was observed, as well as the role of nursing in its detection. Subsequently, given the importance of nursing and its professionals in the detection and management of child abuse, it is necessary to implement knowledge and skills in undergraduate training.

Background: Sexology training and a tolerant attitude towards sexuality are key for nurses to be able to approach the topic appropriately at work. Therefore, the main goal of this study is to determine whether sexology training as part of the nursing degree affects students’ attitudes towards sexuality.Method: A case-control study was performed on 127 students and postgraduates from Facultad de Enfermería de Gijón, dividing the sample in two groups according to their attendance to specific sexology training. The attitudes were assessed using a translated version of Trueblood Sexual Attitude Questionnaire, and data analysis was performed using SPSS software.Results: There are statistically significant differences (p= 0.015) between the mean total score from the group that had received the training (6.53 ± 0.81) and the mean total score from the group that hadn’t (6.13 ± 1.06). Attitudes from members of both groups were more open towards other people’s behaviour (7.53 ± 0.76 versus 7.25 ± 1.06) than towards their own (5.54 ± 1.03 versus 5.00 ± 1.28), respectively.Conclusions: It is verified that receiving sexology training correlates with more liberal attitudes towards sexuality. Only 24.8% of nursing faculties in Spain offer specific sexology courses. Introducción: Tener unas actitudes tolerantes hacia la sexualidad, junto con la formación en sexología son aspectos clave para favorecer el abordaje de la sexualidad en la práctica profesional de las enfermeras. Por ello, el objetivo principal de este estudio fue comprobar si recibir formación en sexología durante los estudios de Grado en Enfermería influye sobre las actitudes hacia la sexualidad del alumnado.Método: Se realizó un estudio caso-control en 127 estudiantes de la Facultad de Enfermería de Gijón, dividiendo a la muestra en función de si habían recibido o no formación específica en sexología. Para medir dichas actitudes se utilizó una versión adaptada al castellano del Trueblood Sexual Attitude Questionnaire (TSAQ), analizándose los datos mediante el programa SPSS.Resultados: Existen diferencias estadísticamente significativas (p=0,015) entre la puntuación media total obtenida en el TSAQ por los estudiantes que sí habían recibido formación en sexología (6,53 ± 0,81) comparada con los que no (6,13 ± 1,06). De igual modo, las actitudes de las personas integrantes de ambos grupos son más liberales para los comportamientos ajenos (7,53 ± 0,76 frente a 7,25 ± 1,06) que para los propios (5,54 ± 1,03 frente a 5,00 ± 1,28), respectivamente.Conclusiones: Se verifica que recibir formación en sexología se relaciona con la tenencia de unas actitudes hacia la sexualidad más liberales. Sólo un 24,8% de las Facultades de Enfermería españolas ofertan asignaturas específicas en sexología.
