Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by a strain of SARS– CoV2. A lot of ministries chose mass lockdown protocol as a way to control the virus spread. One of the lockdown negative consequences is the impact of psychological status which includes a sense of boredom, confusion., psychological stress, anxiety, depression and physical effects. The purpose of this study was to assess and evaluate the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on the psychological status for Palestinian adults, and to establish recommendations in order to promote and maintain psychological well-being during this pandemic. A cross-sectional study was conducted among Palestinian adults, 739 participant with mean age 31.76 filled the on-line questionnaire. Around one-third of respondents revealed having many signs of anxiety and around 42% of respondents expressed having many depression signs. Females were significantly more likely to have many depression signs, while health care workers, those who deal directly with confirmed cases of Covid-19 and who assist in providing health care for a diagnosed Covid-19 patient were significantly less likely to have many depression signs compared to others. Regarding the participants’ income, those with increased income were significantly more likely to have almost no signs of depression compared to others. However, COVID-19 pandemic has a negative effect on the mental status, the majority of participants have signs of anxiety and depression

This study evaluated the health status and lifestyle habits of vulnerable, community-dwelling older adults during the first COVID-19 lockdown in Spain. A telephone assessment was carried out in 38 individuals (71% women), with a Barthel index ≥85 who were frail or had a high risk of falls. Data were compared with those from an assessment performed 9 months earlier. In the latter part of the lockdown, a high percentage of the studied individuals showed difficulties in walking up 10 steps and reported sleep problems (66%) and pain (74%). On the other hand, participants were not anxious/depressed (71%) and the majority did not report loneliness (60%). Compared to the earlier assessment, we identified a decline in functional capacity and worsening of nutritional status, but an increase in family support. Efforts should be made to implement intervention programs seeking to avoid accelerated decline under the current pandemic situation, and especially during possible new lockdowns.

Analisar os fatores relacionados à saúde mental e de risco para suicídio entre idosos e verificar sua associação com a pandemia de COVID-19. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura a partir da busca por artigos das bases eletrônicas das plataformas Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS) SciELO. Os termos de pesquisa foram: “mental health” OR “suicide” AND “elderly” OR “aged” AND “pandemics” AND “covid-19” OR “coronavirus”, incluindo 33 artigos. Os fatores mais associados ao suicídio de idosos no Brasil foram: problemas de saúde, isolamento, violência, problemas financeiros e perda de entes queridos. Os estudos brasileiros utilizaram, em maioria, entrevistas semiestruturadas como percurso metodológico. Os estudos que abordam a saúde mental dos idosos na pandemia possuem origem europeia, norte-americana e asiática, com metodologias variadas. Estes mostraram que o isolamento por covid-19 compreende os fatores de risco para o suicídio entre idosos. Embora trabalhos apontem a resiliência dos idosos em meio à pandemia, os estudos em geral explicitaram a vulnerabilidade frente aos riscos à saúde mental. Assim, a pandemia de COVID-19 pode trazer consequências à saúde da população, repercutindo, também, na saúde mental – devido à multiplicidade de perdas associadas, especialmente entre os idosos. Em relação aos estudos pré-pandêmicos, notou-se que o confinamento por covid-19 apresenta desafios e fatores de risco para o suicídio entre idosos. No Brasil, as políticas públicas voltadas à prevenção de suicídio dessa população ainda não são prioridade, dificultando a identificação dos fatores de risco para as ideações suicidas.
