Dietzia psychralcaliphila sp. nov., a novel, facultatively psychrophilic alkaliphile that grows on hydrocarbons.

Abstract: A novel, facultatively psychrophilic alkaliphile that grows on a chemically defined medium containing n-alkanes as the sole carbon source was isolated from a drain of a fish product-processing plant. The isolate was an aerobic, non-motile, Gram-positive bacterium. The bacterium was catalase-positive and oxidase-negative. The cell wall contained meso-diaminopimelic acid, arabinose and galactose ; the glycan moiety of the cell wall contained acetyl residues. The GMC content of the DNA was 69 6 mol %. “…It can be degraded under enzymes catalyzing into glycol or catechol groups, then further decomposed into acetyl coA or succinic acid [78]. Generally, the degradation pathway is that PAHs are gradually degraded into epoxide, trans diol, phenol, and trans dihydro 2 phenol by monooxygenase of yeast.…”

“…The DNA G+C content of strain N314 T was 38.4 mol%. Whole-cell fatty acids and isoprenoid quinones were analysed as described previously (Yumoto et al, 2002). The presence of meso-diaminopimelic acid (meso-DAP) in the cell wall was analysed in strain N314 T by TLC (Staneck & Roberts, 1974).…”
