Dietary intake of polychlorinated dioxins, furans and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls from foods of animal origin in China

Abstract: Four food groups of animal origin from the Chinese Total Diet Study (TDS) in 2000 were analysed for 17 polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and 12 dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). The samples were from four regions, covering 12 provinces of China. PCDD/Fs, expressed as WHO toxic equivalents (TEQ), ranged from 0.02 to 0.28 pg TEQ g-1 and dioxin-like PCBs ranged from 0.01 to 0.24 pg TEQ g-1 (wet weight, ND = LOD), in all samples. Using food consumption data from a 3-day hous… Show more

“…The average PCDD/F concentration of raw beef in this study was 0.069 pg of TEQ g À1 (fresh weight), which is similar to the level for meat reported in a national survey of foods of animal origin in China (0.06À0.21 pg of TEQ g À1 ). 19 This means the beef used in this study is representative of that consumed in China.…”

“…In our previous studies, dietary intake of PCDD/Fs and dl-PCBs of the Chinese population was estimated from Chinese TDS in 2000 and again in 2007 showing a slightly increasing temporal trend (Li et al, 2007;Zhang et al, 2013a). The aim of the present study is to present the contamination levels of PCDD/Fs and dl-PCBs in main Chinese foodstuffs from the latest Chinese TDS in 2011 and assess the dietary intake as well as health risk.…”

“…Recoveries of all 13 C 12 -labeled surrogates were between 35% and 110% for all samples, which is in the acceptable range established by the USEPA 1613B, 1614, and 1668A. The Laboratory has successfully participated in an inter-laboratory comparison study of PCDD/Fs, PBDEs, and PCBs in different matrices organized by the Norway Institute of Public Health (Norwegian Institute of Public Health, 2005) (Li et al, 2007;Wen et al, 2008).…”
