“…Rickett's big-footed bat Myotis pilosus is also considered a piscivorous species by many authors (e.g. Aihartza et al 2003, Campbell 2011, and although fish remains were found in its diet in three localities (Robinson 1998, Ma et al 2003, regular fish consumption has been confirmed only in a single locality in China (Ma et al 2006). Fish consumption by the longfingered bat Myotis capaccinii (Fig.…”

“…In addition, the knowledge about species' life-history aspects (e.g. Cheng and Lee, 2002;Ho and Lee, 2003;Ma et al, 2006;Park et al, 2000) generated in this century helps to assess the threatened status of bat species and plan effective conservation strategies (Mickleburgh et al, 2002). However, conservation-driven research is needed to draw efficient conservation actions (Weeks and Adams, 2017).…”

“…Beetles are frequently eaten by Pipistrellus, Nyctalus, Murina, and Ia species (Jones 1995;Lee and Lee 2005;Thabah et al 2007;Ma et al 2008), whereas Barbastella-in which gene duplication was absent-is known to specialize on softer bodied insects such as moths (Rydell et al 1996). Apart from fish, beetles are also the main prey of M. ricketti (Ma et al 2006), although the congeners M. siligorensis and M. lucifugus are thought not to specialize on beetles (Wei et al 2006;Burles et al 2008). Our integrated results suggest that gene duplication with subsequent functional modification of lysozymes in vespertilionid bats is likely to have contributed to the success and diversification of insect-eating bats.…”
