“…To our knowledge, a cocktail intervention similar to the one used in our studies has not been examined in human aging. Although some positive results have been reported in clinical trials examining the effects of Vitamins E and C (Di Matteo and Esposito 2003) and antioxidant supplements (Grodstein et al 2003;Jama et al 1996;Engelhart et al 2002;Helmer et al 2003;Zandi et al 2004) on several aspects of aging (McDaniel et al 2003;Martin 2003;Martin et al 2002), the studies reported here suggest that a cocktail intervention consisting of several antioxidants and mitochondrial cofactors may be more effective, possibly due to a synergistic effect.
