“…Lonchophylla dekeyseri is endemic to the Cerrado (contra Leal et al 2013), and has been collected in the Brazilian states of Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, and in the Distrito Federal (Taddei et al 1983, Coelho and Marinho-Filho 2002, Aguiar et al 2014, Moratelli and Dias 2015, Almeida et al 2016). Additional specimens assigned to Lonchophylla dekeyseri exist for the Bolivian state of Santa Cruz (in the Cerrado), and for the Brazilian states of Piauí (in the Cerrado-Caatinga ecotone) and Paraíba (in the Caatinga) (Woodman and Timm 2006, Leal et al 2013).…”

“…Support for these clades was low in our morphology trees (Table 4; <75% MP bootstrap, and <0.97 BPP), and tended to spuriously unite groups with similar feeding strategies. For example, gleaning insectivory is shared across Lophostoma , Macrotus, Micronycteris , Tonatia , Trinycteris , Lampronycteris , and Glyphonycteris (Bell & Fenton, 1986; Kalka & Kalko, 2006), nectar feeding is shared across Glossophaginae and Lonchophyllinae (Coelho & Marinho-Filho, 2002; Zortea, 2003), and Carollia and Rhinophylla both feed on Piper (Thies, Kalko & Schnitzler, 1998; Henry & Kalko, 2007) (Table 4, Fig. 4).…”

“…Although we did not directly examine opsin function, a premature stop codon this early in the opsin gene—together with the absence of a resurrecting start codon nearby—strongly suggests lost function of the OPN1SW gene. Bats from the genus Lonchophylla are well known to use caves as roosts (Coelho & Marinho‐Filho, ; Graham, ), and some species are considered highly dependent on cave habitats (e.g., Lonchophylla dekeyseri , Aguiar & Bernard, ). Although the roosting preferences of Lonchophylla mordax have not been studied extensively, the sparse available records indicate that this species, like other members of its genus, roosts mainly in caves (Gregorin & Ditchfield, ; Gregorin & Mendes, ; McCarthy, Albuja, & Manzano, ) or cavelike structures (Auler et al., ).…”
