Dielectric relaxation in calcium titanate-containing ceramics prepared by plasma spraying

Abstract: The relative permittivity and loss factor frequency dependence in a weak electric field of plasma sprayed perovskite and ilminite polycrystalline ceramic materials-pure synthetic calcium titanate, as well as magnesium titanate-calcium titanate mixture, were studied. It was observed that plasma-sprayed titanates exhibit a strong relaxation of permittivity and loss factor decrease when they are measured in an as-sprayed state. The frequency dependence of the earlier properties is influenced by chemical compositi… Show more

“…Capacity was measured in the frequency range from 50 Hz to 1 MHz using a programmable impedance analyzer model PM6306 (Fluke, the Netherlands). Applied voltage was 1 V AC [9]. Relative permittivity e r was calculated from measured capacities C P and specimen dimensions since e r is directly proportional to C P by the Eq.…”

“…Plasma spraying enables to create layers with 'bulk-like' thickness but adhering on a metallic substrate of various shapes. Free-standing parts of titanate ceramics can be fabricated as well by plasma spraying [9]. BaTiO 3 itself was up to now very seldom plasma sprayed and the understanding of its www.elsevier.com/locate/ceramint behavior in the form of sprayed coating is not satisfactory.…”

“…But compared to other plasma deposited ceramic materials [24,25], the alumina-zirconia system seems to be a relatively good insulator in the as-sprayed state. It is visible that AZ40 having the lowest and only weekly frequency-dependent loss factor have also the highest volume resistivity.…”

“…The authors' approach utilizes experiences gained on titanates and silicates [21][22][23][24][25]. In their opinion no materials exist which are absolutely suitable for a comprehensive study of the behavior of plasma sprayed ceramics in general in the electric field.…”

“…Thus, improving the corrosion resistance of superalloy substrates, such as gas-turbine blades, has been a very distinct line of research and publication (Ref [13][14][15]. Besides this, the high electrical resistivity of these coatings has been exploited to achieve insulating coatings for use in electronics (Ref [16][17][18][19].…”
