Dielectric, FTIR spectroscopic and atomic force microscopic studies on polypyrrole‐poly(acrylonitrile‐co‐vinyl acetate) composites

Abstract: In this study, Poly(acrylonitrile‐co‐vinyl acetate) [P(AN‐co‐VAc)] composite films were fabricated by chemical polymerization of pyrrole (Py) with cerium(IV) (Ce(IV)) on P(AN‐co‐VAc) matrix. The effect of amount of Py and temperature on the composite film properties was studied in a frequency range starting from 0.05 Hz to 10 MHz and in a temperature range from 0 to 250°C. The electric modulus provides a good description of the dielectric relaxation of the conducting polymer composites. The atomic force micros… Show more

“…For composite film, the AC conductivity increases with the increase in frequency starting from 10 mHz to 10 7 Hz. Conductivity increased about 18 times (from 0 to 300 µL Py addition), as it was observed in the case of PPy–P(AN‐ co ‐VAc) composite films where the conductivity increased 10 times compared to the matrix 25…”

“…An increase in the characteristic absorbance peak of DMF (1666 cm −1 CO stretching) and CC stretching absorbance peak (1644 cm −1 ) of BuA with an increase in the Py content can be explained on the basis of inclusion of DMF and its interaction with BuA functional groups of composite, resulting in a new a single peak. FTIR–ATR results also indicate that there is a possibility of inclusion of Ce 3+ [Ce(III)], which is reduced during the polymerization as well as complexing with functional groups of copolymer and DMF (Scheme ) 25…”

“…After silylation with MPTMS and oxidation with H 2 O 2 , the characteristic C-H stretching peaks at 2850 and 2925 cm À1 , and the S¼O stretching peak at 1187 cm À1 arose, indicating the MS was successfully functionalized with -SO 3 H groups. For the pure PPy and F-MS=PPy composite (S-2), the sharp absorption peaks at 1540 and 1460 cm À1 could be assigned to the C¼C stretching vibration and C-N stretching vibration of pyrrole ring, respectively [35]. The out of plane ring deformation vibration of C-H at 960 and 785 cm À1 also appeared.…”

“…Intrinsically conducting polymers are of great interest since they exhibit both good electrical conductivity and high chemical stability, thus they can find many application areas such as sensors (chemical, thermal, and biochemical), light‐emitting diodes, electromagnetic shielding, and molecular electronics . In some cases, it can be difficult to process conducting polymers due to their sensitivity to humidity and oxygen or the lack of solubility .…”
