Dielectric behaviour of some amides and formamides dissolved in nonpolar solvents under static electric field

Abstract: Structural and associational aspects of polar amides ( j) like formamide, acetamide, Nmethyl acetamide (NMA), N,N-dimethyl formamide (DMF), N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMA) and acetanilide dissolved in the nonpolar solvent (i) benzene or 1,4-dioxan have been estimated from the measured static relative permittivity ε 0ij and high-frequency permittivity ε ∞ij at different weight fractions w j s of polar solute at 35 • C under static electric field using Debye model of polar liquid molecule. The static dipole moments… Show more

“…These hydrogen bonded pairs have only two energy levels, E 11 and E 12 , for 11 and 12 pair formed bonds, respectively. The values of n 11 HB  and n 12 HB  depend on the number densities of the hydrogen-bonded pairs between solvent -solvent and solvent -solute molecules respectively. Fig.4.…”

“…We calculated the average number of hydrogen-bonded solvent -solvent pairs [n 11 HB ] V and solvent -solute pairs [n 12 HB ] V per unit volume (per cm 3 ) using the following equations [18]: and (6) where C SOLVENT is the weight fraction of solvent, ρ mix (gram per cm 3 ) is the density of mixture, N A is the Avogadro number, as 6.02  10 23 (per mol) and M SOLVENT is the molecular weight of solvent. HB ] V increases with increasing X DX and that of [n 12 HB ] V has a maxima at concentration X DX ≈ 0.50 for DMF-DX and X DX ≈ 0.37 for NMA-DX.…”
