DIEL AND SEASONAL CHANGES IN THE CHLOROPLAST ULTRASTRUCTURE OF DESCHAMPSIA FLEXUOSA (L.) TRIN.

Abstract: SUMMARYChloroplast ultrastructure was studied during the season of main growth on leaves of Deschampsia fiexuosa (L.) Trin. collected from the wild in South Finland, Corresponding leaf segments were used for concurrent measurements of the Oj evolution rate, chlorophyll (chl) content and chl a/b ratio. No significant diel variation was observed in the content or arrangement of grana thylakoids but fluctuation was evident in the volume of starch grains. The seasonal changes in thylakoid organization were more ma… Show more

“…The thylakoid membrane structure of chloroplasts changes during leaf ontogeny under natural, outdoor growth conditions (Kutík, 1985). Increases in the number of grana layers have been observed by systematic surveys of trees and herbs over a period of 1 year (Aro et al, 1985; Kutík, 1985, 1998). Light‐dependent regulation of grana stacking was further demonstrated (Jia et al, 2012; Melis, 1984).…”
