DieBlidingia-Arten von Helgoland (Ulvales, Chlorophyta)

Abstract: The Blidingia-species of Helgoland (Ulvales, Chlorophyta). Based on tield studies and cultivation, four Blidingia-species have been established for Helgoland (North Sea). One of them, hitherto not separated from B. minima, is regarded as being B. chade [audii, though differing from its original description in an important morphological feature: the inner cell wall is not considerably thi&ened. The species is characterized by habit, development and zonation. There is good reason for conferring to B. subsalsa… Show more

“…In the 19th century some species were recorded by Wollny (1881) and are present in the Kuckuck herbarium, but were probably not a conspicuous part of Table 1 the flora as they were not mentioned again until Peter Kornmann and Paul-Heinz Sahling started their work. Blidingia chadefaudii was separated from B. minima and B. subsalsa from B. marginata by Kornmann and Sahling (1978) on the basis of developmental differences.…”

“…In other features, P. dawsonii resembles species of Blidingia (Table 4). All have empty zoospore germination and produce a branched prostrate system (this study; Bliding 1963; Yoshida 1970; Kornmann & Sahling 1978; Tatewaki & Iima 1984; Garbary & Barkhouse 1987; Garbary & Tam 1989; Iima 1989; Woolcott et al . 2000; Iima et al .…”

“…stolonifera Garbary et C. Tam (Garbary & Tam 1989). (Figures in Kornmann and Sahling (1978) and Iima (1989) suggest that secondary stolon formation might also occur in B. chadefaudii .) In our earlier cultures of P. dawsonii from French Beach, the prostrate system was more compact than in the present study.…”
