Die voorspelling van hipnotiese suggereerbaarheid op grond van persoonlikheidsveranderlikes

Abstract

The predictability of hypnotic suggestibility on the basis of personality variables. According to the literature little research has been done on the prediction of hypnotic suggestibility. The results reported in the literature concerning personality factors and hypnotic suggestibility have largely been contradictory. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether the personality variables which correlate significantly with hypnotizability (as indicated by the literature) can be used as predictors of hypnotic suggestibility. The subjects consisted of 60 undergraduate psychology majors (18 males, 42 females) who were administered the Cattell 16-PF Test. To assess hypnotic suggestibility an adaptation of the Body Sway Test (Weitzenhoffer & Hilgard, 1962) was used. No significant relationship was found between hypnotic suggestibility and the different personality variables. It would seem that the personality variables indicated by literature and measured by the 16-PF Test are not accurate predictors of hypnotic suggestibility.S. Atr. J. Die doel met die studie was om vas te stel of persoonlikheidsfaktore wat volgens die literatuur beduidend met hipnotiseerbaarheid korreleer as voorspellers vir hipnotiese suggereerbaarheid gebruik kan word. Sestig voorgraadse senior sielkundestudente (18 mans en 42 dames) is as proefpersone gebruik. Cattell se 16-Persoonlikheidsfaktorevraelys is toegepas. 'n Aangepaste vorm van die Liggaamswaaitoets (Weitzenhoffer & Hilgard, 19(2) is gebruik om hipnotiese suggereerbaarheid te bepaal. Hipnotiese suggereerbaarheid het nie met een van die onafhanlike veranderlikes beduidend korreleer nie. Oit blyk dat die persoonlikheidsveranderlikes wat op grond van die Iiteratuur geselekteer is en wat deur die 16-PF gemeet is, nie akkurate voorspellers van hipnotiese suggereerbaarheid is nie.
