Die Wärmeinhalte von glasigem, rotem amorphen und schwarzem amorphen Selen wurden mit Hilfe der, drop “‐Methode zwischen − 180° und + 100°C bestimmt und aus den Versuchsergebnissen die spezifischen Wärmen und Entropien mit den entsprechenden allgemeinen Temperaturfunktionen ermittelt.Glasiges Selen besitzt neben dem sogenannten Glastransformationspunkt bei + 30° ± 1°C zwei weitere endotherm reversible Umwandlungspunkte bei − 145° ± 2° und + 11° ± 1°C und geht > 75°C exotherm irreversibel in die hexagonale Modifikation über. Die Umwandlungsenthalpien betragen: δHt = 40 ± 20 cal/g‐At. bei − 145°C, δHt = 30 ± 20 cal/g‐At. bei + 11°C, δHt = 0 ± 20 cal/g‐At. bei + 30°C.Das rote amorphe Selen durchläuft zwei endotherm reversible Transformationen bei − 134° ± 2° und + 10° ± 1°C mit δHt = 160 ± 20 cal/g‐At. bei − 134°C, δHt = 60 ± 20 cal/g‐At. bei + 10°.Oberhalb + 30°C geht es irreversibel in das schwarze amorphe Selen über, das sich seinerseits > 80°C irreversibel in die hexagonale Modifikation umwandelt. — Das schwarze amorphe Selen stellt keine eigene Selen‐Modifikation dar.Die Umwandlungen der amorphen Selen‐Arten werden unter Zugrundelegung thermodynamischer Meßergebnisse und strukturchemischer Überlegungen diskutiert.
