“…However, as pointed out by Strack (1931: 213 n. 916), this dating is based on an erroneous reading of the consular date at the end of the obverse legend (COS V instead of COS VI) on specimens that are worn, like the one in London, 15 or struck slightly off-centre. The obverse bust variety most commonly associated with reverses of this type, bust MIR v, was introduced only at the beginning of AD 112, as we know today (Woytek, 2010: 88). Furthermore, sestertii featuring this reverse type from the phase of Trajan's rule when his titulature comprised the name Optimus (AD 114–16) have been reported since the seventeenth century as well.…”
