Show more

“…Numerous reviews have appeared on the applications of polarography t o organic systems (190), nonaqueous systems (196), organic chemistry (608), pharmacology (261), and blood chemistry (686). Other articles have covered the determination of organic substances in the atmosphere (183), blood components (68S-685), agricultural pesticides (279), alkaloids (641), organic drugs (252), and essential oils (627).…”

“…The widely varying results quoted above probably can be explained by the different conditions under which the electrophoresis was carried out (for example, moving boundary electrophoresis, paper electrophoresis, and variations in the pH values, ion type and ion strength of the buffers used). Gutmann ( 7 ) maintains that such environmental factors play an important r81e in the solubility and distribution of the various protein components. Edsall ( 4 ) considers that quite important differences arise from the use of different strains of guinea-pigs.…”

“…Thus, immunization inhibits the increase of a-globulin occurring in infected animals. Increase in ae-globulin is considered to be caused by break-down of tissue ( 7 ) . If this is correct, the results imply that immunization suppresses this break-down process.…”

“…The important factors of non-aqueous solvent used for the polarographic study are (1) solubility of substance to be studied, (2) dielectric constant (3) proper liquid range (4) chemical stability (5) wide polarographic e.m.f. range (6) viscosity and ( 7) stability for O2, CO2 or hygroscopicity.…”
