In all subjects, and especially in those with uterine and vaginal prolapse, it is particularly important in my opinion to collect samples from the lateral vaginal fornix, which is more sensitive to hormonal influences and less liable to be affected by mechanical or irritative factors (Rauscher 1954; Wied 1955; Pundel 1957; and others).…”
