“…At this temperature the sample basically consists of the two solid phases Cl 2 and SC1 4 , which do not form solid solutions [17]. Above 150 cm -1 the spectrum is similar to the published spectra [5]; the four lines below 150 cm" 1 are a superposition of the SC1 4 lines at 84 and 136 (see Fig. 3 b) and the lattice vibrations of crystalline chlorine at 77, 94, 113 and 138 cm -1 [18,19].…”

“…The vibrational spectra of SC1 2 [2][3][4], SC1 4 [5], S 2 C1 2 [4,6,7,8,10,11] and Se 2 Cl 2 [7][8][9] are well known and, with the exception of SC1 4 , the assignment of the fundamental vibrations seems to be well established. In the present investigation the question is addressed whether Raman spectroscopy can be used to detect small concentrations of other species in the above mentioned compounds.…”

“…It is stable enough to exist as a solid at low temperatures (indicating the existence of a barrier to dissociation), but it decomposes above −30 °C. Raman and IR spectra have been taken of SCl 4 at low temperatures. Solid SCl 4 has also been studied by X-ray powder diffraction . Previously optimized structures of SCl 4 have been calculated using both DFT , and MP2. , Gutsev reported C 3 v and T d symmetric structures.…”
