“…The chimney gases were diluted with purified ambient air so as to bring the sulfur dioxide concentration to about 1 mg/Nm 3 The repeated analyses of gases after dilution showed a content of oxygen equal to 20 30 % (vol ), 0 00 % carbon monoxide, 0 025 % carbon dioxide and 0 66 mg/Nm 3 nitrogen pentoxide as well as 1 10 mg/Nm 3 sulfur dioxide The gases which have been introduced into the toxicity chambers after having reacted with ammonia have been analyzed several times as well.…”

“…2 A group of 25 animals exposed in toxicity chambers ( 8 hrs daily for 120 days) to exhausts introduced by suction from the chimney of a coal-heated power station The chimney exhausts were diluted with ambient air after it had been passed through a set of dust absorbing filters The ambient air was moistened and, after being mixed with exhaust gases, introduced into the chamber with the animals Exhaust gases were diluted so as to bring the final 502 concentration to values not exceeding 1 mg/Nm 3 This required a steady control of SO 2 concentration in both the primary and diluted exhausts. The capacity of the chamber was 1 m 3 ; the temperature was maintained at 22 to 23 0 C, the relative humidity at 65 to 70 %, and the amount of air introduced at 150 1/min, which meant about 9 changes per hr The animals were weighed daily before introduction to the chamber.…”
