Octadecachloroquaterphenyl (perchloroquaterphenyl) , CzL-ICIls, is prepared by heating quaterphenyl with an excess of antimony pentachloride; it is a colorless, crystalline compound, which melts a t 364-365" and can be sublimed in a vacuum without decomposition.Decachlorobiphenyl is prepared by chlorinating pentachlorobiphenyl. which can be obtained commercially.We wished to have the compounds, mentioned in the title, at our disposal in connection with other investigations. H a r t m a n n 3 ) gives the melting point as 305.5".
