“…The combination of pentazocine and diazepam has been used in numerous other fields. It has been used in dentistry (Brown et al 2 and Main 5 ) in gynaecology (Schoenfeld et al 6 ), in cardiovascular surgery (Hatano et al 4 ), as premedication for bronchoscopy (Bernard 1 ) and as premedication for endoscopy in general (Choffat et al 3 ). It is surprising that no investigation of its value as premedication for surgical induction of labour has been carried out before but the present study shows that in this situation intravenous administration of pentazocine 30 mg. with diazepam 10 mg. seems simple, safe and effective.…”
